Most Efficient Subcompacts
Below are the top 10 most efficient subcompacts based on their city
fuel consumption.
No expensive hybrid technology here. Most of these subcompacts are budget cars and hybrid systems would make them too expensive. These cars achieve their fuel efficiency through being lightweight and having small gasoline engines.
The exception are the last 3. The Nissan, Audi and Lexus offer larger more powerful engines but still boast a very respectable fuel economy. The Audi TT sports car in particular was a surprise to see in the top ten.

FORD FIESTA SFE
The most efficient subcompact is the Ford Fiesta SFE.
SFE stands for Super Fuel Economy. All Fiesta's have aerodynamic design features that help to reduce air resistance, such as the aero-shaped body mounted mirrors, but the Super Fuel Economy Package has extra aerodynamic efficiencies such as underbody shields and blockers on the lower grille.
The PowerShift six-speed automatic gearbox increases fuel economy thanks to its dry clutch technology and a neutral idle mode both of which combat energy losses.
